By “How long will you put off going in to take possession of the land, which the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given you?” Joshua 18:3
Last night in a dream, the Lord gave me this verse from Joshua 18. Like the Israelites, how many of us are dwelling in the land of our inheritance having yet to fully understand what it looks like and what it is to possess it with full authority. They spent 40 years waiting in a desert for the day to arrive when they would walk into the Land of Milk and Honey and here we see Joshua saying, What’s up? Why are you not taking it over?
“There remained among the people of Israel seven tribes whose inheritance had not yet been apportioned. So Joshua said to the people of Israel, “How long will you put off going in to take possession of the land, which the Lord, the God of your fathers, has given you? Provide three men from each tribe, and I will send them out that they may set out and go up and down the land. They shall write a description of it with a view to their inheritances, and then come to me. They shall divide it into seven portions.”
It’s TIME TO NAME IT AND CLAIM IT – TELL THE DEVIL, “THAT’S MINE! HANDS OFF!”
The Lord gave them the land as inheritance, but like any gift or devise, the one to whom it’s given must not only step up and claim right to it but also set about possessing it, like with a property bequeathed in a will it’s not fully yours to enjoy until you move in! It’s not enough to simply own it. Possession is 9/10ths of the law!
Joshua tells the men to go into the land and write a description WITH A VIEW TOWARD the inheritance. Have you written down a description of what the Lord has called you to inherit? Do you know what it is He has given to you to possess? Do you know what things will need to be cleaned out and brought in in order for you to live in it as one who has authority to rule over it? When you take time to be still and pray, He will show you your land. Write it down. Ask Him questions. Separate fears and ask the Lord to show you His best strategy for you and be unafraid to approach Him with your concerns. He will show you the way and will not lead you into despair for His ways are peace and power for those who choose to follow.
Joshua knew it would take time, strategy and effort for the tribes to actually move in and possess the land. He also knew the best way to do just that was to first lay hold of it by walking through it and setting out a description, preparing a lasting vision of it in their minds that they could hold on to until the day the vision was their reality. In this season, wherever you are at, I believe the Lord is calling to you just like Joshua did, What are you waiting for? You already own it! God’s already given it to you. NOW is the time to set the vision and possess it! GO! Take it, it’s yours!
