Stomach Drop

I loved to swing as a child and I always anticipated, and even resisted, the stomach drop. You know what I’m taking about. That tightening and out of control feeling as your stomach spasms.

Apparently, because all parts inside your body are loosely connected, they have a free for all for a moment as they catch up with gravity.

Yikes! Doesn’t that sound frightening?!

Have you ever felt as if your life is a free for all? That every part is loosely connected as they try to catch up with gravity. Yes? So have I. Even as I write this.

Uncertainty can be a scary place. Free falling and having to trust that land will once again find itself below your feet is NOT my favorite sensation.

It all boils down to TRUST. And for me, do I trust God? Do I trust God to catch me as I fall? Do I trust Him with the beginning, middle, and end. Do I trust that His love for me is unconditional and He accepts me even when I stumble, and believe me I stumble.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭3:5-6‬ ‭

At times I am so afraid to trust that I squint my eyes as tight as I can and hold on for dear life. For anyone who enjoys a roller coaster, you know this is NOT how you get the fullest out of the high adrenaline moment. It’s also not how you enjoy the fullest of life. We were never meant to live in fear. We were meant to walk in peace and joy alongside our God, like Adam in the garden. On our quest to find Eden again, we must choose to trust. To believe. To know that God is good and so are His intentions toward us.

“Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. We love because he first loved us.”

‭‭1 John‬ ‭4:15-19‬ ‭

Helpless may be how we feel at times but helpless is not what we are. We are not alone in this life and we can trust in God and His abiding love to catch us as we fall back into place.
