Shiviti…, “I have set God (Havayeh) before me always.”
Havayeh indicates the creation of the universe and creatures. Bringing all of Creation into being and sustaining it is accomplished by bridging an infinite gap – from ayin (non-being, nihilo) to yesh (being). This form of the avoda (service) of teshuva results from one’s constant awareness of the way in which the universe and all that is in it, is (constantly) brought into being.
📖 A Miktam of David. (Psalm 16:1,2,5,7,8,11)
Preserve me, O God, for in thee I take refuge.
I say to the LORD, “Thou art my Lord; I have no good apart from thee.”
The LORD is my chosen portion and my cup; thou holdest my lot.
I bless the LORD who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me.
I keep the LORD always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Thou dost show me the path of life; in thy presence there is fulness of joy, in thy right hand are pleasures for evermore.
🕯 REFLECT: On this 5th day of Tishrei, Naftali was born. Naftali, was the son of Jacob and Bilhah, sixth of the Twelve Tribes. He was the founder of the Israelite Tribe of Naphtali. Naphtali is listed in Deuteronomy 34:1-2 when God takes Moses up to the mountain of Nebo and shows him the extent of the land which He had promised to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He lived to be 133 years old. The text of the Torah states that the name of Naphtali may refer to the struggle between Rachel and Leah for the favors of Jacob; Bilhah was the handmaid of Rachel, who had thought herself to be infertile, and had persuaded Jacob to have a child with Bilhah as a proxy for having one with herself because she feared God’s promise would not be fulfilled through her.
The penitent heart recognizes the promises of God are kept, in spite of man’s best efforts to see them fulfilled according to their own vision. For he is not a man that he should lie.
🎯Do I believe there is no good for me apart from God? Then I should be found with my gaze constantly upon him else I am looking upon that which is no good.
🎯Is the Lord truly my right hand? Than I shall be found unmoved by fear and anxiety which threaten to move me from his grasp of peace. And I shall not be moved in anger from his loving grip of mercy.
Beloved, it is only when we keep our eyes fixed upon him as though his nearness is the necessity for our breath that we can endure his countless mercies and find ourselves immersed in his joy and pleasures forevermore. His promises are true.
Set God before you.
🙏🏼 PRAY: Jesus, We trust in you.
Always.
