Ashes aren’t so much a sign of our holiness as they are a sign of our humility.
The observance of Lent is about manifesting your belief in the power of Christ to transform us. Your faith must be shown through works or else it is not actually faith-it’s magic. Lent focuses on the works of prayer, fasting, giving: 3 Simple Acts that prove your faith is in the One Who Calls You By Name. We do as He did. We DO Acts of Faith. We GET HUMBLE.
“What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” James 14-17
But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.”
Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!
BUT do you want to know, O FOOLISH MAN, why faith without works is dead?
Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? Do you see that faith was working TOGETHER WITH his works, and BY WORKS his faith was MADE perfect?
And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, “Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.”[Because he proved his belief by acting upon the sacrifice of his son.] And he was called the friend of God.
You see then that a man is JUSTIFIED by works, and not by faith only.
Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also JUSTIFIED by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? [She proved she had received the GRACE for faith, though she was not of Israel, by her WORK to help them. Her actions made clear her Faith was in the power of the God of Israel to save.]
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. James 2:18-26
❤️💙💛 If GRACE is the justification of our Faith; WORKS is the justification of our Righteousness. What you DO is the JUSTIFICATION of what you BELIEVE. Without DOING, our BELIEFS mean nothing. They are empty words, void of Love because Love itself is an ACTION. Therefore, let us #PRAY #FAST #GIVE. Let us #LOVE one another.
This week’s Lenten Meditations we’ll be focusing on the virtue of humility while we do violence on the vice of pride.
If we’re doing Lent right, then by the end of our 40 Days in the Desert we’ll have rid ourselves of every vice and taken hold of violently every virtue the Kingdom offers us, just like Jesus did. And when we are full of virtue, nothing is impossible for us who believe.
Join Me on Facebook and Instagram as we ponder the wisdom of the saints this Lent and do violence for our souls and the souls of those we love.
I’m praying for you to have a Blessed Lent and, as the Jews say, “Have an easy Fast.”
Until the Day Dawns,
Kim
