Mary, for instance. For most Catholics, Mary is a tender mother, but I had an ambivalent attitude toward her at first. My bishop once counseled me during confession that the measure of my Catholic faith is my relationship to Mary. Honestly, I left the confessional offended, because like many current and former non-Catholics, I found honoring her to be the most bewildering notion of Catholic doctrine and therefore preferred to ignore her entirely. My bishop’s statement bothered me for years until I finally went to Mary directly. My first communication to her was, I don’t get this at all. I don’t get you at all. I think all the attention you get is weird. But I am willing to understand if you are willing to teach me. I think she must have felt sorry for me, because after I placed my hand in hers, I made a breathtaking discovery that has deepened my faith in the gentlest, most motherly way. From the beginning he was "the one whom the Father consecrated and sent into the world", conceived as "holy" in Mary's virginal womb. God called Joseph to "take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit", so that Jesus, "who is called Christ", should be born of Joseph's spouse into the messianic lineage of David. • Jesus Christ himself is the "Amen." He is the definitive "Amen" of the Father's love for us. He takes up and completes our "Amen" to the Father: "For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why we utter the Amen through him, to the glory of God": • Through him, with him, in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all glory and honor is yours, almighty Father, God, for ever and ever. AMEN. 🍎 What a beautiful reminder of the power of fostering a child! Joseph was surely a special man to be given such a privilege. We mustn’t forget that all forms of parenting are also such - a privilege. You don’t have to be blood related to have a special role of significance in someone’s life. If our Messiah found it fitting to have a foster dad how much more fitting to have them now also to help raise up the sons of God in this generation. In Christ, Joseph was elevated to a powerful position of helping to steward a mission over a single child that saved the world. I don’t know about you but this gives me a special feeling for foster dads everywhere today. You have been invited into that same mission simply by loving the child you’ve been given and by doing it well, with righteousness and a little assistance from angels. I’ve had the habit of saying a special prayer each night over my son to “have sweet dreams and visions of heaven” Maybe someday he’ll remember it and our talk about Jesus’ foster dad and find himself willing to do the same. This boy is 13 and 5’9. He is kind and tender-hearted and ... the girls are always swooning over him. It drives this momma crazy. 😬😳🙄Last week he came home from a youth function and yet another girl professed her interest in him!! His big sister explained to her that he has promised God not to date until he is older. The girls always ask if his parents are making him do that and though we do direct this decision, all my children have seen the value of waiting and not creating or getting a broken heart so young. As I sat and heard another story of a young lady finding my sweet boy attractive and whining to God about it...God shared this with me...”of course these sweet young ladies are attracted to your son, he has given his life to ME and they are attracted to ME in him!” You see, Gracen is kindhearted but strong. He is a gentlemen and he is silly and loves to laugh. That is who Christ has made him to be. . So I told him to use this opportunity to tell the girls that he is so flattered by their compliments but that really they are attracted to Jesus inside of him. To share with them that ... if they will seek Jesus first, that He would bring the perfect guy to them at the perfect time in their life. I don’t know that he will do this but he agreed. . The world glorifies romance so much and tells us to chase it but it is our relationship with Jesus that is the most important to pursue. It is only then all the other stuff is given. Romance is just the icing on the cake! . Let’s teach our kids to pursue God and not each other. Lets not awaken love too soon by encouraging boyfriends and girlfriends at a young age. Let’s let them grow up in their relationship withJesus before they have to navigate another’s heart.
