Saint Hildegard says about wormwood oil: “Crush wormwood in mortar to extract its juice (…) prepare (…) an ointment. Warm it by the fire and rub it on a person tormented by rheumatic pain. If then any person suffers in the chest and around the chest (pain), so that he starts coughing from it, put the ointment there on the chest. This is one of the few salves still made today entirely according to St. Hildegard’s recipe. We prepare this wormwood tallow ointment in small batches, using organically grown wormwood, animal fats (from deer, goat, and beef tallow), olive oil and rose oil, the way Hildegard recommends, and whipped to a smooth massage ready perfection with much prayer and reflection for the gifts of the Holy Spirit offerred to us through this Great Saint! Recommended Use: massage into damaged or cracked skin or chest twice daily into areas warmed by a fireplace or lamp. Store in a cool, dry place.
