Ignition – What the Flash and other Cosmic Superheroes can teach us about God and our Universe

To simultaneously believe and do is the hardest part of existence.

Whether you’re a Marvel or DC fan, or an admirer of the fantasy genres of Tolkien, Lewis and L’Engle (or maybe you just like art imitating life/life imitating art), I am sure you can appreciate what I am about to share without having to choose sides in the extended universe.

Take it all as fiction or a good read at best, but I hope to inspire you to see we are part of a bigger universe than we might imagine. And, I believe Adonai Eloheinu, melekh ha’olamLord, Master of the Universe” as our Hebrew brothers call him, is using our fantasy friends to help us discover the shape and size of that universe and our role in it.

In a world that warns you to stay away from so much “taboo” out of fear of false truths, it can be challenging to navigate the movie and arts expressions of our day. But Christians know there is no need to fear the supernatural. In fact, we are called to live it by our faith. If we’re asking for the Holy Spirit to do something, we do not need to fear receiving a counterfeit. The way that God moves in power looks a lot like “New Age” at times, and this has scared many Christians away from operating in the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

The truth is that the gifts of the Holy Spirit will look similar to the counterfeit. The best counterfeits resemble what they are made to imitate. Because the counterfeit and the authentic will always look incredibly similar; the main test is the origin.

“If there is a counterfeit, there is an authentic that we need to find and reclaim. Every time we see a masquerade, we need to look closely to properly discern what is being counterfeited, because a counterfeit is evidence that an authentic exists. The devil cannot create anything new, he can only distort what God has already created. The fact that there are people operating in counterfeit miracles proves that there are real miracles available to the Church.” – Bill Johnson, Pastor Bethel Church Redding, California, The Physics of Heaven

Personally, I have a lot more faith in the Lord’s ability to keep me than the devil’s ability to steal me away.

This extends to the realm of supernatural sacred imagination, where we find a literal multi-verse of God’s expressions in the creative arts. Throughout mankind, God has used literary authors to steward mankind’s evolution into Truth. Let’s not forget the Master of the Universe is also the first creator of the Spoken Word and Author of the Book of Life!

I believe He extends those same creative gifts to each of us through the power of the Holy Spirit to believers and non-believers alike and for the greater good of all humanity.

Now, let’s talk the Flash!

If you’ve never seen the CW Network show, read the comic book, or talked to a super-geek like me, the following revelations may sound a little confusing outside of context. Flash lovers can go a ahead and skip to the next paragraph. Basically, the story of the Flash is a human one. A young man, Barry Allen, gets struck by lightening during a city-wide quantum particle accelerator experiment gone awry. The results of the sudden shock wave known as the “singularity” restructures Barry’s DNA making him into a type of meta-human with supernatural powers of speed and ability to control energy, which narrates the many facets of Quantum Physics we know today. Barry soon finds out he is not the only human affected by this singularity and other meta-humans begin to emerge demonstrating other supernatural abilities. Barry’s life transforms suddenly from the everyday mundane of a Crime Scene Investigator to a vigilante of mercy and justice, helping to keep the world from destroying those unique new creations called meta-humans and those newly empowered meta-humans from embracing the dark side and destroying the world. He spends his life calling out the good in others, both meta-human and non-meta-human.

Jonathan Welton in his article Authentic vs. Counterfeit (excerpted from his book “Normal Christianity”) explains “the greatest danger to the authentic revelations of God is not from those walking in the authentic or even those walking in the counterfeit, but actually from those walking in neither who are simply afraid of each group and afraid to confront the truth that paradoxes of faith bring forth through life and art.”

My encounter with my son watching the network TV show The Flash, lead me to confront such paradoxes, like “Are there multiple universes, God?” Does it destroy my belief in Jesus Christ as the Savior of the world to consider for a moment that where science has yet to prove faith, and faith has yet to embrace both science and reason as mutually inclusive to our understanding of God, that just maybe therein lies some truth which the Lord, Master of the Universe desires to reveal to us about Himself and about His creation? The following is the Lord’s response to my questions and the Ignition point for this journey into the latest series of blogs on “The Physics of Heaven.” I pray you will have eyes to see and receive what the Spirit is saying.

In the words of Apostle Paul in his letter to the Ephesians chapter 1 verses 17-23, I praythat the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.”

Here’s how this Jesus Freak Super Geek started a conversation with God on “The Physics of Heaven”

In answer to your question, Dear One: How can there be multiple universes? (in light of your new-found understanding of quantum physics from watching the Flash – I can almost hear Him laughing)

Let me begin at the Beginning. I Am; and, have always been. Just as a painter primes the canvas, I primed Creation with my Word gone forth. My words, Let there be Light, painted an infinite universe of worlds to be discovered by my creatures, but darkness threatened to consume it, so I sent forth my shockwave to awaken and restore the oils of my Word to a beauty that could be once more adored.

My Son is the ignition key, the spark of spontaneous combustion. From one moment in infinity, He re-generated every part of Himself throughout each multi-verse, every world I had destined to be formed. In a single act of will, He collided with every particle in the universe. He set off a combustion bomb that resonates still today, because in time, it is today! (Jesus is the particle accelerant! And, the cross is the singularity that dispenses Christ’s powers into the creation i.e. the multi-verses)

The affects of His “singularity” are still being revealed to you. Look at how many have been affected, conformed into His likeness – a meta-human in His image, a Son of God. (The Lord likens the path of spiritual sons and daughters to those meta-humans affected by the particle blast shock wave.)

Men like Stan Lee and the writers of the Flash saw all this the same as I am showing you now, and they chose to relate it to the world in a way others could see it too. To the world, it appears they capitalized on a fiction, money-making empire. One man chooses entertainment, while another digs wells, but I tell you each man has done his part well and are equal in my eyes.

Do you see the particles at work here? Do you see the gifts? (The gifts of the Holy Spirit are likened to the particles in the particle accelerator. Without the singularity of Christ’s cross, those gifts would still be inside the machine rather than dispersed to us.)

The wealth, and any sinfulness, which may follow is nothing compared to the gift these men gave in literary and visual forms. Their gift is that they saw the Truth of their existence. How men like them chose to manifest those gifts will look differently across the multi-verse. The only matter of importance is that man manifests the gift to see the Truth. And, that he shares it with the world so others may follow. (We must use our gifts to help others see as the Flash helps uncover the Truth.)

Tolkien, CS Lewis, they did the same as Stan Lee and many others. Each, men of different cultures, faiths, all men of one gift – to see the infinite and to reveal the unseen.

The Christ singularity sent a ripple through time and multi-verse. It bridged together all the worlds so that you could ascend, Dear One. Every man who follows in his way creates another bridge. One day there will be enough bridges to unite all the multi-verse and that one singularity on the cross will become fulfilled, having completed the re-unification of all worlds into one. (This is a reference to the (Einstein-Rosen bridge.”)

The Flash, meta-humans, what Stan Lee and others at DC and Marvel do is help to awaken others to the possibility that they are part of that first singularity. Religion, even science, all do the same. With infinite multi-verses come infinite pathways, but only one singularity. (Like the Flash and the particle accelerator, the same event occurs in each parallel universe even though the details of specific lives are very different.)

The pathway to awakening, igniting a spark into a flame, may be infinite across worlds and dimensions but there is only one way to become a bridge, whether consciously or unconsciously, the particle must collide with the “Force” as you call it in human terms. Each particle must become a part of the same mission, or eventually it will be ejected. (Like the Flash and the Speed Force. The Speed Force is the same across dimensions, just as the Holy Spirit reaches into heaven, earth, and other spiritual dimensions. If we do not treat it properly we can be ejected from seeing properly and using our gifts in agreement with the Laws of Heaven.)

Particle collision comes under many factors – usually motivated by an intense pressure that needs release. (God is always moving us toward expansion. We are not stagnate particles but in constant movement. Inside pressure cause outside collisions.)

The ability of a soul to merge with that pressure release force depends on many factors, but it all depends on willful acceptance. Motivation of that will is negligable – acceptance is all that matters. (It doesn’t matter what type of pressure is applied, villains, love, justice, mercy, acceptance of our mission and part of action is what matters. Barry Allen is always pressured to do the right thing, even at great cost to him.)

The power of one’s belief is scientific (meaning it’s proven science the mechanics of power, see Newton’s 3rd Law of Physics). The higher the power (good or bad) the higher the equal and opposite force.

The secret of Christ’s singularity is the power of His belief. There is no unbelief in Him. (Mark 9:24)

What comics reveal, like The Flash, to whom much is given, more is given.

To awaken to Truth is to simultaneously bear the burden of responsibility for those around you – including the innocent and the ignorant.

To simultaneously believe and do is the hardest part of existence. Barry Allen the man may want to give his own form of justice or even sit out the fight, but the Flash cannot do either. He is always and forever the Flash. Man becomes mission.

Everything in you and around you wants to fight against the reality that your life depends on your ability to resonate (this is a reference to Quantum Phasing a physics term whereby particles vibrating at similar frequencies can literally exchange places with each other, i.e walking through walls, jumping dimensions. ) You are essentially at odds with the collision and at home with being completely unaware of its existence. The Truth is that every one is affected by the particle blast (Christ’s immersion into our world – his birth, death, and resurrection). Those meta-humans are merely the ones who’ve been awoken, that is, their particle has been activated into a higher vibration – they live now on another frequency. This is only Step 1.

Step 2. Is discovery. Learning how to live in this new awakened state. How to harness the “power” of belief to keep yourself alive and continually awake despite your surroundings and the sleepiness of others. To “fall asleep” again is denial – and certain death.

Step 3. What to do with your discovery. The Flash shows us that we ought to use it to protect others, giving them as long an opportunity to be “awoken” themselves, thus multiplying the force itself and creating more “bridges” for the ultimate end game.

The mission of the Spark, the Christ, is to become a flame, that ignites the world.

This is your mission too.

How do you set the world on fire? Become a living flame and learn to carry it at the speed of Light.

How you do it is up to you.

This is your life. Live it well. The flames you spark just might save your own.

What are you waiting for? A whole multi-verse is waiting for you!

12 Comic Book Quotes Everyone Can Live By:

1. DC’s Wonder Woman

“Don’t kill if you can wound, don’t wound if you can subdue, don’t subdue, if you can pacify, and don’t raise a hand at all, until you’ve extended it.” (Wonder Woman Vol. 3 #2)

2. Marvel’s Black Panther

“Better to die as men — Than to live as slaves!” (Marvel Double Feature Vol 1 #21) or “The fight for freedom needs no more martyrs — it needs victory — it needs no more atrocities to stir our blood — it is stirred!” (Black Panther Vol 2 #2) (I know, I cheated and picked two quotes.)

3. DC’s Superman

“The world is full of exceptional people. The people in the world who do kindness, or search for the truth despite their lives being at risk. The engineers, the teachers, the doctors, and adoptive parents, the scholars and the firemen, and yes, the journalists. People who risk everything for the sake of others and those who simply try to help those whose needed be greater than their own. Those people inspire me, not the other way around.” (Superman: Strange Attractors)

4. Marvel’s Spider-man

“We’re not just our failures. As much as they hurt, we learn from them. Then we go out there and do our best to make up for them– Even though we never will. We save people. We save as many as we can to make up for the ones we couldn’t. That’s all we do.” (All-New Captain America Vol. 1 #1)

5. DC’s Aquaman

“True happiness is found along a middle road. There lies the balance and the harmony– with reason and emotion, not at war but hand in hand” (Aquaman Special Vol. 1)

6. Marvel’s Captain America

“Doesn’t matter if the whole country decides that something wrong is something right. This nation was founded on one principle above all else: The requirement that we stand up for what we believe, no matter the odds or the consequences. When the mob and the press and the whole world tell you to move, your job is to plant yourself like a tree beside the river of truth, and tell the whole world — “No, YOU move.” (Civil War: The Amazing Spider-Man, Vol. II #13)

7. DC’s Green Arrow

“Haven’t you learned anything yet? Think about your own life — everything you’ve done to keep your secret safe. You don’t just wear the mask for yourself. It’s for your wife… your parents… even for — one day — your children. There are animals out there. And when it comes to family, we can’t always be there to defend them. But the mask will.” (Identity Crisis Vol 1 #6)

8. Marvel’s Ms. Marvel

“This is saying our generation will never matter. But we have to matter. If we don’t, there is no future worth saving.”(Ms. Marvel #10, Civil War Vol 2)

9. DC’S Green Lantern

“Sooner or later you have to turn and face it– you made a mistake! Welcome to the human race, pal. It’s your choice. If you let it, it will destroy you. But if you do let it, remember you had a choice… you just picked the easiest way. You didn’t fall into that bottle. You crawled in and pulled the cork in after you!” (Green Arrow Vol 2 #20)

10. Marvel’s Doctor Strange

“A true Defender never raises arms against an innocent, no matter how they threaten you”– (Defenders Vol 1 #12)

11. DC’s Martian Manhunter

“The future is worth it. All the pain. All the tears. The future is worth the fight.” (Martian Manhunter Vol 2 #1000000)

12. Marvel’s Iron Man

“I can create a world without war. I can make a world without alcohol or drugs. Without hate or jealousy. But then it wouldn’t be the world we live in. Nothing would be learned, nothing would be gained. We wouldn’t advance as species” (Avengers Vol 4 #12)

Honorable Movie/TV Mentions:

1.Matt Murdock/Daredevil

“Violence doesn’t discriminate. It hits all of us… the rich, the poor, the healthy, the sick. It comes as cold and bracing as a winter breeze off the Hudson. Until it sinks into your bones… leaving you with a chill you can’t shake. They say there’s not rest for the wicked. But what about the good? The battle of Good vs. Evil is never-ending… because evil always survives… with the help of evil men. As for Daredevil, well… soon the world will know the truth. That this is a city born of heroes, that one man can make a difference.” (Daredevil 2003)

2. Barry Allen/The Flash

“Things aren’t always what they seem. Our fears can play tricks on us, making us afraid to change course, afraid to move on, but usually, hidden behind our fears are second chances waiting to be seized, second chances at life, at glory, at family, at love. And these opportunities don’t come around every day, so when they do, we have to be brave, take a chance, and grab them while we can.” (Season 2 Episode 4, “The Fury of Firestorm)

3. Charles Xavier/Professor X

“A gift can often be a curse. Give someone wings, and they may fly too close to the sun. Give them the power of prophecy, and they may live in fear of the future. Give them the greatest gift of all, powers beyond imagination, and they may think they are meant to rule the world.” (X-Men: Apocalypse)

4. Bruce Wayne/Batman

“A hero can be anyone, even a man doing something as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a little boy’s shoulder to let him know that the world hadn’t ended.” (“The Dark Knight Rises)

5. Guardian’s of the Galaxy’s Groot

“We are Groot” (Guardians of the Galaxy) (I mean, doesn’t that say it all really?)
