White Rabbit

Now this will age me a bit but who remembers the movie The Matrix? I hardly remember the movie myself, but I do remember the white rabbit that leads the actor’s journey through the story. Somehow I connected with that rabbit because it greatly resembles my faith walk.

Everyday, if I pay attention, “white rabbits” lead me to people who need a smile, a hug, a reminder of God’s love for them. It’s exciting to think that God partners with us to reach His people. Every person created needs to know. They need to know that they have purpose. They have value. They aren’t an accident. They are known.

I read this passage a few weeks ago and it hit me like never before!

“Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’ “Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink?

Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭25:34-37, 39-40‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

He recognized them as “blessed of my Father” because of what they did for the “least of these”.

All of my life I have wanted to be known. I’ve wanted to be recognized as having value and something to offer, thinking the entire time that that value came from peers or even perceived people of importance. But right here the truth explodes in my face and I’m reminded AGAIN that the kingdom of God is upside down. We will not be known for what we did for the GREATS of this world but for what we did for the invisibles. The ones people avoid, pretend don’t exist, out-of-sight-out-of-minds.

Let that sink in.

If we want to be great we have to disappear. Disappear into the places that are forgotten. The places that are not so obvious to the clothed eye.

Each day, if I’m paying attention, a white rabbit appears. Leading me to people who feel forgotten. People who feel discouraged. Hopeless even. And I can light up their darkened corner, if even for a moment, and tell them they are known. They are loved. They are His.
