Lectio Divina from The Jesse Tree
ADAM & EVE – Day 1 🍎
Genesis 3:1-24
“And the tree was desirable for gaining wisdom.”
The pursuit of wisdom led instead to knowledge without power. Adam and Eve became naked.
They lost their innocence from good and evil and quickly realized just how vulnerable and exposed they really were to all Creation. Knowledge left them feeling insecure and they succumbed to every fear and hid themselves from the only One who ever really loved them. The only One who had the power to give them what they truly wanted.
Wisdom was never meant to be pursued and overtaken but rather given freely through Love.
This is why the meek inherit the earth. They come to knowledge through mercy not might and to wisdom through humility not power.
This is why the weak confound the wise because the righteous learn to wait upon the Lord while the children of the devil learn to kill, steal, and destroy.
Knowledge is not power.
Love is power.
Love in order to be so powerful must be given freely for love that is stolen is not real love. Love is a gift.
And so the man and the woman hid because they were naked without Love for having knowledge now they understood their power had left them the moment they decided to doubt its goodness and trust in its ways.
And the world grew in great darkness, for the Light of Love had left them naked when they rejected it for the Light of Knowledge, and they were ashamed for betraying the only Love they had ever truly known.
But Wisdom was mercy in her Maker and by His great love for them she vowed to return to them and redeem them from their mistake. And so Love’s Light came into the Darkness once more and set itself upon Wisdom’s Seat and gifted freely what once was stolen and Love was re-born.
Wisdom now whispers from within her children and her children whisper it back, “Totus Tuus.” (I am totally yours.)
And the Light has over taken them, clothing them in righteousness, and they are naked no more.
